Quality Coast Award Categories
Whilst there is only one Quality Coast Award, applications can be made through three different categories depending on your beaches’ existing assets.
Category A – Resort Bathing Beach
Has mandatory water quality as a minimum requirement, well developed facilities (typically including toilets, first aid, disabled access) and is often supervised.
A variety of activities are encouraged on the beach and other facilities for visitors are often provided on the beach or in the immediate vicinity. During the bathing season dogs are banned from all or part of the beach.

Category B – Bathing Beach
Has mandatory water quality as a minimum requirement, is generally less developed, has fewer facilities but is still well managed. It is generally quieter than a resort beach and is used for a variety of activities, including walking, relaxing and bathing. Dogs may be allowed on the beach during the bathing season, but responsible dog ownership and control must be encouraged.

Category C – Non-Bathing Beach
Has few facilities and has generally not been developed. It is also probably quieter and more remote. The water quality has either not been tested or the beach is not actively promoted for water-based activities. Dogs may or may not be banned from all or part of the beach.
